The Manjawira Primary School in Ntcheu, Malawi, has recorded its best-ever Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) results, with 34 of 37 candidates selected for secondary school in the results released in August 2026. Even more exciting, four students have tested well enough to be selected to attend national boarding schools:

Through our donors, We4Malawi has been able to invest in Manjawira Primary School, an overcrowded rural school serving 1,100 students across eight grades. We were able to donate solar lamps, so students in grades 4 through 8 can study at night, as well as donating pencils, notebooks, and feminine hygiene supplies that help young women stay in school.
This success is proof that investing in education changes lives. But the four students now face another challenge: their families cannot afford the boarding fees and other costs needed for them to take up their places.

Just eight months after opening its doors, Liphava Children’s Centre is already transforming lives.
At a recent ceremony celebrating the end of the school term, the staff, committee members, chiefs and proud parents looked over the joyful preschoolers honoring their accomplishments on the new school’s covered patio. The academic stars were the 35 rising first-graders who just completed eight months of early childhood education, a first in this village – in an area of rural Malawi without running water or electricity, and where children typically don’t start school until first grade at age six. The little children proudly marched up to the chalkboard and wrote out their numbers, 1-10, while their parents, just as proudly, looked on.
Also impressed with their performance was the headmaster of the local secondary school for the Manjawira Community of six rural villages. The Centre’s first Reception Class graduates have earned glowing praise from Manjawira Primary School Headteacher, Enock Ngondo, who says the children are entering primary school with skills that clearly reflect high-quality early childhood education.
Speaking during the Centre’s first graduation ceremony, Ngondo said he was deeply impressed by the confidence and ability displayed by the children as they showcased what they had learned.
“I am an experienced teacher, and I can easily tell when children have received good teaching. Watching these learners, I have no doubt that Liphava Children’s Centre has excellent teachers.”

He noted that despite spending only eight months at the Centre, the children could confidently write letters and numbers, communicate clearly and demonstrate skills that would make their transition to primary school much easier. “These are exactly the kind of learners we love to receive in primary school. They will settle quickly because they already have a strong educational foundation.”
Liphava Children’s Centre opened in 2026 to address the lack of access to preschool education in the surrounding communities, where many children previously started primary school without any early learning experience. Today, the Centre is proving that quality early childhood education gives children a stronger start and a better chance of succeeding throughout their education.

Preparing for the next term
Even as we celebrate this first-term success, we must prepare to fund the future of this new school and learning ecosystem. Ideally, the preschool soon will include a playground with age-appropriate climbing equipment that little children enjoy so much. It also needs a kitchen and guardhouse.
